Congress Overview (FROM THURSDAY 20 November TO SaTURDAY 22 NOVEMBER)
On behalf of the National Osteoporosis Foundation of South Africa CEO, Teréza Hough and NOFSA Chairman, Prof Tobie de Villiers, we are delighted to invite you to the 2025 NOFSA-IOF-ESCEO Congress, set to take place from November 20th to 22nd at the picturesque Breakwater Lodge in Cape Town, South Africa. This prestigious event promises to be an enriching experience, featuring an array of eminent international and local speakers who are leaders in their fields. It will also be the first time NOFSA partners with both the IOF and ESCEO. The IOF Regional Advisory Council for Africa will also be represented at this Congress.

GP Session Overview (Parallel session on Saturday 22 November from 9:00 AM to 13:00 PM)
This GP session aims to enhance the understanding and management of osteoporosis among general practitioners, ensuring better patient care. Topics include using the FRAX calculator effectively, interpreting DXA scans, and applying a stepwise method to assess bone health in postmenopausal women and older men. The programme also covers identifying high fracture risk patients in primary care, guidance on referral, and managing acute vertebral fractures. The session concludes with a panel discussion and Q&A, allowing for interactive engagement with the speakers. View programme.
DXA Operator Overview (Parallel Session on Friday 21 November from 9:00 AM to 16:00 PM)
Vertec Hologic Session: The session offers practical training on patient preparation, scan performance, analysis, positioning, and managing challenging cases, including whole body scans and FRAX. The session will be presented by Ms Joy Thorpe, an applications specialist from Vertec UK with over 20 years of DXA experience, who will share her expertise and insights with participants. GE Lunar Session: This interactive session offers a comprehensive overview of osteoporosis and DXA scanning, combining clinical insight with practical training. Participants will explore current international and local guidelines, learn to navigate and apply enCORE software in various clinical scenarios, and gain hands-on experience in both basic and advanced DXA scanning techniques. The programme also focuses on optimising daily practice through case discussions, precision scanning principles, and customisation options, ensuring attendees leave with enhanced confidence and competence in delivering accurate, patient-focused bone health assessments.
